About Stephen MacKay

Stephen MacKay is a husband, a father, and a healthcare worker. He has a background that is rich in experience, from making double doubles to organizing the technology details of international conferences to working with a team to save Nova Scotians millions of dollars in healthcare costs every year.

He is passionate about his community in the North End of Halifax and can often be seen walking or cycling the streets on his way to supporting the great work of numerous community organizations.

After witnessing the affect of dozens of violent car crashes in his neighborhood and the municipality’s lack of response to these events he was driven into action. As he started knocking on neighbors’ doors, he began to understand how many had voiced their concerns only to be ignored, and decided to give them a voice.

He understands that the first step in giving people a voice is to listen to what they are saying.

Having lived in small towns like Antigonish and a big city like Montreal he has come to appreciate the connectedness of a community like North End Halifax and hopes to stay here for many more years. He also hopes that his child and possibly his grand children can find a place to call home in the North End and can and thrive with the benefit of having a local intergenerational family.

He is a person that likes to see results that benefit the broader community. He is action oriented and driven by data.
