I have known Steve MacKay for at least 15 years in our work together in healthcare. Steve is thorough and attentive to detail – focusing on optimizing patient care while not losing sight on financial and environmental responsibility. Steve is committed to improving cycling and walking for kids in Halifax. He has been an important part of Kidical Mass Halifax since it began, and has led three of our family-focused urban bike rides, one each year since 2022. As a Kidical Mass ride leader, Steve has gone above and beyond: he mapped out the best route options; tested them extensively for potholes; organised iced treats from the local corner store; put up posters around the neighbourhood; and organised a city bus and a firetruck to attend the rides. Steve is a community builder: he took the 'Kidical Mass' energy back to his local school with walking school bus and bike bus initiatives, creating a community around active transportation for kids. If you walk or bike around Steve's neighbourhood with him, he'll share his community with you: the parks, the shortcuts and pathways, the people and the businesses. Steve is a passionate advocate for the north end of Halifax.
